Screen Trouble

When a screen stops
doing its job.

A hole at dog height

Standard fibreglass mesh does not survive a determined dog or a cat that has worked out the screen is optional. Pet-resistant mesh is roughly seven times stronger and fits the same frame.

Sagging and rippled

Heat cycling and UV stretch the mesh until it waves. It is a re-tension and rescreen job, not a new frame — the spline channel is almost always fine.

The screen door drags or derails

Screen doors run on their own small rollers in their own light track. Both wear, and the frame itself racks out of square once they do.

The lanai is unusable by 2pm

Solar screen mesh cuts a large share of the heat and glare coming through a west-facing lanai while still letting the breeze through. Same frames, different fabric.

Rescreen or replace

Rescreening keeps your existing frame and puts new mesh in it. Replacing builds a new frame. The deciding factor is the frame, not the mesh: if the corners are still tight and the spline channel is intact, rescreening is the right answer and it is the cheaper one by a wide margin.

A frame gets replaced when the corner keys have failed and it has racked into a parallelogram, when the extrusion has corroded, or when the spline channel has split so nothing will hold tension. We will tell you which one you are looking at with the panel in our hands, not over the phone.

Mesh we fit

  • Standard fibreglass — the default; fine where nothing is clawing at it
  • Pet-resistant — heavy vinyl-coated polyester, for dogs and cats
  • Solar / sun screen — cuts heat and glare on west and south-facing lanais
  • No-see-um mesh — a tighter weave for the smaller biting insects that walk straight through standard screen

Lanai and pool-cage screens

For lanai or pool-cage screen enquiries in Venice or North Port, share the panel dimensions, height and photos so the team can confirm the scope and access requirements before booking.

Cage panels tear at the bottom where the mower flicks stones and where pets lean, and they blow out along the top after a storm. Individual panels can be replaced without touching the rest of the cage, which is what makes this worth doing rather than living with a taped-up corner for two seasons.

The screen door itself

The sliding screen door is the part of the assembly that gets used and abused most, and it is the one most often written off as unfixable. It rarely is. Its rollers are small, cheap and adjustable; its track is light and bends but also straightens; and the frame can be squared and re-keyed at the corners.

If you also need sliding glass door repair or roller replacement, mention both issues when requesting an appointment so we can assess the work together.

What it costs

Screen work is quoted after a free on-site assessment. The price depends on the number and size of panels, the mesh you choose, and whether the frames can be rescreened or need rebuilding. Confirm the scope and quote before approving work.

Questions we get most.

The price depends on the damaged parts, panel count and weight, track condition and access to the door. Request a free on-site estimate so the repair options and scope can be assessed. Confirm the quote before approving work.

We repair sliding doors and screens at condos and homes with lanais. Share access restrictions and any association requirements before booking. Tell us whether the glass panel, screen door or both need attention.

Timing depends on the door, the damage and parts availability. We assess the rollers, track and hardware and explain the proposed repair before starting. Ask whether the work can be completed during the visit or needs parts ordered.

Call 941-730-1582 to check today’s availability. A same-day visit cannot be promised before the schedule, address and repair are checked. We confirm the appointment time with you.
