Four ways a sliding door
tells you it's finished.

You need two hands and a shoulder

A door that used to move with one finger and now takes your bodyweight has failed rollers underneath it. The panel has stopped rolling and started dragging.

Grinding, squealing or a gritty rumble

That is metal on metal. The bearings inside the rollers have collapsed and the roller housing is now cutting a groove into the track — which makes the next repair bigger.

The panel jumps out of the track

Usually a bent track lip, a roller that has broken apart, or a panel that has dropped out of square. Lifting it back in without fixing the cause buys a few weeks at most.

It won't latch unless you lift it

The door has dropped by a few millimetres and the hook no longer lines up with the keeper. It is a hardware and alignment problem, not a reason to buy a new door.

What we actually do on the visit

We start by taking the panel out. That sounds dramatic and it is completely routine — it is also the only way to see the rollers, the underside of the track and the bottom rail at the same time. Diagnosing a sliding door from the outside is guessing, and guessing is how people end up paying for a new set of rollers on a door whose real problem was a bent track.

With the panel out we check four things: the condition of the rollers and their housings, whether the track has been grooved, dented or corroded, whether the panel itself still sits square, and whether the lock hardware lines up with the keeper. We explain the findings so you can review the repair options and quote.

Typical repairs on a first visit

  • Roller replacement — stainless tandem rollers sized to your door, adjusted and tested
  • Track repair and restoration — cleaned, straightened, capped or a damaged section replaced
  • Lock and handle work — latches, keepers, multi-point hardware and flush pulls
  • Screen repair — rescreening and screen-door rollers while we are there
  • Panel re-alignment so the door sits square and latches without being lifted

Why Florida doors fail faster

Two things kill sliding doors on the Gulf coast. The first is salt air, which corrodes plain steel roller bearings and eats aluminium tracks from the inside of the channel where nobody looks. The second is sand — wind-blown grit settles in the track and turns into grinding paste under a 70 kg glass panel.

Moisture, grit and repeated use affect rollers and tracks. Hardware should match the door, and the track should be assessed alongside the rollers.

Brands and ages we work on

We assess aluminium, vinyl and wood-frame sliding doors. Share the manufacturer label and photos of the door when requesting an estimate. Older or discontinued models may need a parts search, and some frame damage can limit repair options.

Impact and hurricane-rated sliders are the same job, only heavier: the extra weight of laminated glass is exactly why their rollers wear out sooner. We do not replace impact glass itself — if the pane is damaged, that is a glazier's job and we will tell you so rather than take the work.

What it costs

Request a free on-site estimate. The repair cost depends on the damaged parts, panel count and weight, track condition and access to the door. Review the scope and any additional charges before approving the work.

Questions we get most.

Worn rollers, debris in the track and panel misalignment can make a sliding door hard to move. The repair depends on which parts are damaged. Avoid forcing a sticking panel and ask for an assessment.

The price depends on the damaged parts, panel count and weight, track condition and access to the door. Request a free on-site estimate so the repair options and scope can be assessed. Confirm the quote before approving work.

A roller, track or hardware repair may be enough for a sticking sliding door. The right choice depends on the frame and panel condition, compatible parts and the quoted work. We assess the door before recommending a repair.

Timing depends on the door, the damage and parts availability. We assess the rollers, track and hardware and explain the proposed repair before starting. Ask whether the work can be completed during the visit or needs parts ordered.

We assess sliding doors from major manufacturers, including older models. Repair options depend on the frame condition and compatible parts. Share the manufacturer label and a photo when requesting an estimate.
